Porcelain Dental Veneers

Looking to have that perfect A-List celebrity smile? Porcelain Veneers will most likely do the trick. A porcelain veneer is small thin shelled layer of porcelain (<05mm), which are bonded onto the teeth. Veneers are used to treat damaged, crooked, severely discolored and/or badly worn out teeth. It adds an extra layer of protection for old or worn teeth and can be used as a cosmetic device to give your cracked or gaped teeth a more uniform appearance.

The process of being treated for Dental Veneers usually is done in 2 appointments. The procedure consists of Dr. Langer first examining your teeth via consultation where he will explain the procedure to you in its entirety. Preliminary impressions (molds of your teeth) will be taken, along with photographs. Dr. Langer will use these models to determine how the "final product" will look, before touching any of your teeth. A "preview" of your new smile will be tried-in, so you will actually see how your new smile will look. The next stage consists of Dr. Langer prepping your teeth for the veneers by administering anesthetic and shaving the surface of your teeth, reshaping them for your veneers. Dr. Langer will create a mold of your teeth which will then be cast and used to help construct your veneers. Within the next appointment Dr. Langer will fit your veneers and take care of any and all trimming involved. In the last stages of veneer placement, your teeth will be cleaned, roughened with a special gel to promote a good surface for the veneer, and finally the veneers will be boned into place and cured with a special lighting tool used to help the adhere the veneers to your teeth.

Depending on how well you maintain good oral hygiene, your porcelain veneers can last up to ten years or more without having to replace them. If you have composite veneers they may not last as long, and may need periodic “touch ups” to keep them looking new.
