Sealants
Dental Sealants are mainly used as a protective coating that is applied to the surface of your back teeth in order to stave off tooth decay. It's a preventative tool used in most cases in children and teens that keeps most food particles as well as germs from getting into the grooves of your back teeth that is best suitable for permanent molars.
Application of Dental Sealants is a quick process that involves the use of a special gel-like material that is applied to the surface of a tooth which is cleansed and then dried. The sealant is then painted onto the surface and dried using a curative lighting tool to harden the sealant. The whole process can be performed in less than a day and can last anywhere from 5 to 10 years.
Sealants help to prevent decay and are not a substitute for other forms of preventative measure against cavities and other types of major dental work. Sealants are part of a child's overall preventative care and work together with fluorides to promote positive oral hygiene.
The cost of getting a dental sealant can range from 25 and up, per tooth depending on the materials used and the Dentist performing the procedure. If you have any questions about this or any other procedure that Dr. Langer can do for you, please contact our office at: (718) 339-6544.
