What are LUMINEERS®—and are they an option for you?

LUMINEERS are ultra-thin, custom designed veneers that are manufactured by Den-Mat, a California-based company. Unlike traditional veneers, they require no shots, no drilling of sensitive tooth structure, and no pain. They’re reversible, are proven to last, with proper care, for more than 20 years—and come with a lifetime warranty.

LUMINEERS are a popular choice because they are stronger than most other brands of veneers, so they can be made thinner. It is generally recommended that porcelain veneers be made a minimum of 0.5 millimeter thick, about the thickness of a fingernail. LUMINEERS can be made a little thinner, down to 0.3 millimeter.

Thinness, therefore, makes it feasible to place LUMINEERS with a "no-prep" technique. In other words, no tooth structure (or very little tooth structure) needs to be shaved away in order to place them.

Whether or not you should get LUMINEERS is a judgment call, and depends on your personal preferences. If it's important to you not to have your teeth shaved at all, then you may want to consider them. Dr. Laurence Langer will take a mold of your teeth, and send it to the Den-Mat lab. When the LUMINEERS are made and sent back to his office, he will fit your LUMINEERS to your teeth. Usually, just a few visits are needed from start to finish.
