Fillings
Dental Fillings help to restore small fractured, decayed and damaged surface areas of teeth using a myriad of composite materials such as porcelain, gold and silver, depending on how deteriorated your tooth has become. Fillings are normally used to restore enamel loss which is frequent in tooth decay as a tooth can become sensitive due to the loss of enamel. Depending on the state in which your tooth is in, a dentist may need to choose a different procedure such as Implants, crowns or even root canals.
After careful examination of your teeth and a consultation, Dr. Langer will have assessed whether or not a filling needs to be inserted into your tooth through a myriad of tools at his disposal such as x-rays and detecting liquids. Langer will determine what is the best strategy and options for you when it comes to the costs and types of materials used for the procedure. The procedure can be carried out within a day depending on the factors surrounding the patient and the tooth in question, such as cost, severity of the tooth, materials used.
The patient initially will be administered either an anesthetic or undergo sedation if necessary. The first step in the process is to prep the tooth by isolating it in order to keep moisture during the cleaning and bonding processes. The tooth will be thoroughly cleaned of any decay which is removed with either a laser or dental tool and then be sterilized and made void of bacteria in order for the composite material to be bonded in its place. The composite material will be bonded into place with special adhesives that will be hardened along with the composite material by a special lighting tool that will cure and solidify the bonding process.
After the procedure Dr. Langer will advise you as to how to take care of your filling and the appropriate steps you will need to do so. Practice of good oral hygiene is a must as well as a good diet in order for your fillings to last.
The cost of the procedure will vary depending on the severity of the tooth and the composite materials to be used in the procedure. Depending on the materials the cost of the composite material can range from $100 per filling and up.
