Dentures
Aside from dental implant, bridges and veneers, another form of cosmetic dentistry are dentures. Dentures have been used for many years to replace peoples missing teeth. Dentures have been designed to function just like a normal teeth should and today they can look as natural as a set of real teeth. Dentures help to promote your overall health and do a lot for patients with low self esteem, giving them the confidence they need in their everyday lives.
If a patient is missing teeth it's important that they are replaced as soon as possible to promote good oral health. If you are missing all of your teeth, essentially you can get a full or complete denture to replace your missing teeth, if you are missing a single or several teeth you may be fitted for an overdenture to remedy your situation.
Fitting the denture to your gums should happen naturally after your dentist constructs the denture to the specifications of your gums. It should act almost in the way a suction cup would work. There are special adhesives that can be used to hold your dentures into place as well but most of these adhesives will come loose after a certain time. A more popular option today is the use of dental implants that can hold your dentures in place, allowing you the ability to eat whatever you'd like without fear of your dentures coming out of place.
There are a variety of materials that are used today in the creation of dentures. Your dentist will give you many options when it comes to the construction of your dentures. Come time for your first appointment, Dr. Langer will assess the health of your remaining teeth and gums. Depending on the health of your gums you may need to undergo additional treatment before your dentures can be applied. There is also the chance that you may need to have some existing teeth removed to accommodate your dentures. A mould will be made of your gums to be used in order to create your dentures and a special technician will begin creating your dentures to the specifications required.
After you receive your dentures it's important to maintain good oral hygiene and to keep your dentures clean as best as possible. It is important to brush your dentures and soak them every night before you go to bed. There are numerous cleaning products for your dentures available on the market that will promote good oral health. Failure to keep your dentures clean will decrease the lifespan of your dentures. Your dentures will not last forever, over time they may become loose as your gums may get smaller. In this case you may need to be fitted for a new pair of dentures or you may need Dr. Langer to modify your existing dentures to accommodate your mouth.
